I am in a similar position, I have an rs6, I have a separate pol a spa. My aqua link switches my filter, pump and heater from the spa to the pool and visa versus.
I dodge the variable speed pump bullet the last time by just rebuilding to pump motor. Now the motor is locked up again.
The new vs pump have there own controller that does not talk to the old Jandy RS 6. The new pump is already more than double the cost and now I have to also upgrade the control system. I will never recover this many $$s in energy savings. My pool pump only runs at night when our rates are 2/3 of peak daytime rates. The spa is also only used in the evening.
Looks like I am stuck having to upgrade the pump as it is the federal law.
It’s been a lot of years since I even messed with Rs6, but I’m open to suggestions.
Thx

I wasn’t aware of that. I have the same controller and had to replace my pump not that long ago, but still was able to buy a single speed pump. Must have been prior to the 2021 law. I looked into VS at the time, but like your situation, the cost to “upgrade” was going to be more than I’d ever recoup in energy savings.

Check your pump HP. Pumps over 2.5hp are excluded. Mine is 2hp (rated at 2.2hp), so it falls under the new law, but I’d look at a higher hp pump and weigh the cost of that against replacement of controller + pump. I’m not sure of the technical compatibility of a higher HP pump, but I’ll look into it when the time comes.
