Bad hayward sand filter

Have 18' x 4" round AG pool. Buried part in ground and limited space under deck for where I have a trap door for sand filter.

Anyway need a new sand filter. Had a Jacuzzi brand one for 30 years no problems. 4 Years ago replaced with a Hayward 18" sand filter model S180T.
Seemed like the best one I could find with my height restriction.

Just found a crack in the filter at a seam of the tank.
Do they just not last that long?
Only one I could find that would fit is the 18" Hayward or a 16 1/2" Pentair.
I only need to backwash once a month now. Would the smaller pentair be better. Or just keep buying new Haywards.

See if Hayward will send you a new tank.

How much pressure are you putting on the tank?

Hayward had a "bad batch" of tank's made and I know at least two people with out of warranty
cracked tank's (at the seam, same as yours) got free replacements. So try that, they will probably send you a new unit one
time replacement that won't prematurely fail.

I've had this S-244T forever and it is still going strong.

I tried calling Hayward. He said the would only assist a year out of warranty. Also my PSI runs about 12 and I backwash if it ever gets 4 higher. Which is about 4 times a year.
