Backwashing caused cloudy pool

Good morning!

We bought a house with a pool in Phoenix, AZ. We've been here for a month now and I've been able to keep the pool in check with liquid chlorine and muriatic acid while testing with a tf test kit that was recommended here.

I've done a few backwashes, however, during my last backwash the sediment from the filter ended up back in my pool making it cloudy. I read online that I'm supposed to rinse after backwashing, is this possible with our setup?

Should i have someone add a valve that lets us rinse after backwashing? What should I do now that it's cloudy? SLAM or just let everything run back in to the filter?

Trying to figure why it's happened so I can stop it from happening again.

Thanks!

Not familiar with your setup but don't see a rinse feature. I do see the label backwash circulate but they are not one in the same. Most likely it's the pipe going to a drain/waste for backwash and don't see how this can circulate.

Welcome to the forum.
You have what is called a Slide Valve. It's settings are Filter and Backwash. That is it.

Might try running backwash longer.

You have a basic push-pull plunger backwash valve. You have no rinse option. Honestly, sand filters are a horrible choice of filters here in Arizona. Backwashing wastes an enormous amount of water. Your only option with your setup is to backwash for a very long time (until the water is running crystal clear) and then deal with whatever cloudiness happens.

Going forward, you either need to replace the push/pull valve with a compatible multiport valve OR get rid of the sand filter altogether. An oversized cartridge filter is a better choice.
