Backwash or simply a drain

My pool has a cartridge filter so I know its not really a backwash like a sand filter But I assumed it would at least clean out some of the loose debris in the bottom.

Then in a moment of clarity I realized the valve labeled "backwash" was between the pump and the filter so its impossible for the filter debris to come out ...

It works good for draining water

you can see it right above 8 - its the un numbered valve
The pipe with the temp port in it that comes right towards the camera comes fromthe pump and it forks down to the filter inlet and the "backwash" valve .

Its not really a backwash right ? Cant be .... Even though thats how its labeled
Just a way to pump to the sewers ?

I see what you are referring to Doug (valve). Not sure if this post was separated from another thread, but did you have a specific question about your filter, or were you just trying to clean the bottom of it?
