Pool went from 3200 salt to 0 in 2 days. Now it is showing inspect cell light and check salt.

We cleaned cell and recalibrated but didn’t work. Now the generating light is not lit.

Pool man replaced circuit board and digital read out which didn’t fix it. He said the issue must be in the cell.

It is only 3 years old and runs for 4 months a year. Can anyone help?

Also tested the water and salt is at 3500 and chlorine is fine.

Move the switch from auto to off and check all of the readings.

Move the switch back to auto and recheck the readings.

Move the switch to off for a minute and then back to auto and recheck the readings.

Report all readings.

What are the first seven characters of the cell and box serial numbers?

It looks like a failed cell. You have a 3 year warranty from the date of purchase. You can take the cell to a pool store that tests cells and have them test the cell. If the cell fails and you have a receipt that shows a date of purchase less than three years old, they should be able to give you a new cell under warranty.

How big is the pool?

The T-5 cell should be able to produce about 0.735 lbs of chlorine gas per day.

It should produce for about 8,700 hours total cumulative production time.

That’s about 266 lbs total chlorine gas production lifetime.

Your unit does not use a flow switch, correct?

The pool does not have a flow switch. It is 21 foot. Unfortunately the receipt shows 3 years and 3 months. My pool store said they can’t get any cells right now. Is there somewhere reputable online?

JamesW is the T5 the right size for the 21 foot pool? I think it’s 10,,400 gallons. The pool tech told me he has a T3 but another person said that one won’t last very long. Is this correct? Would it be better to get something Larger?

Also how do I know that the “cell type” is correct for the box? I read that if you change to a different number cell you also have to change it in the box. What is the correct number for the T5?

The AquaTrol only takes a T-5.

You usually want to go 2x the pool size for the cell rated size. The T-5 is rated for 20,000 gallons. So, you're close to the recommended size.

If you could take a different cell, I would probably go with a T-15.

A T-5 on a 10,400 gallon pool will provide about 8.5 ppm chlorine running at 100% for 24 hours.

Here are the capacities for different cells.

T-Cell-3 = 0.53 lbs/day = 15k gallons. 193 lbs chlorine gas lifetime or 364 days at 100% or 8,736 hours at 100%.

T-Cell-5 = 0.735 lbs/day = 20k gallons. 265 lbs chlorine gas lifetime or 8,650 hours at 100%.

T-Cell-9 (925) = 0.98 lbs/day = 25k gallons. 354 lb chlorine gas lifetime or 361 days at 100% or 8,664 hours at 100%.

T-Cell-15 (940) = 1.47 lbs/day = 40k gallons. 533 lb chlorine gas lifetime or 362 days at 100% or 8,688 hours at 100%.

Which cell is the best deal depends on how long the pump runs and on the price of the cell.

In any case, the AquaTrol only takes a T-5. So, there’s not much choice.
