Any MacGyver fixes for bad o-ring on Hayward inline chlorinator?

Just replaced the stupid o-ring last summer. It's already stretched out and too big. Any way to jury rig this thing until I can get a new one in a couple days?

If you have silicone crease handy, you could try to goop a bunch of that in there, not sure if it would hold, but best option I have. Only other idea is to try to pack the groove in the cap with twine soaked in silicone grease and then try. I don't really think either would work very well though. Not sure where you are in NY, but i would assume a pool store (or industrial supply store ) near you would have the right size/material oring available. The real question though, is why is it stretching out like that, it should last longer than a year.

Per internet advice, I cut the o-ring. Cut off 1/4" and super glued the ends back together and worked perfectly!
