I had another bout with algae, which was mind-boggling at 72 degree water temp, running the pump about 9 hours a day, and FC of 10 (my CYA is still a bit low -- takes so long to get it up with dry conditioner), but alas, it happened. I was out of town, so my SLAM this week has not been text book, but it did appear "complete" last night, and I realized I had a cover that probably had residual algae on it. My problem was with very light algae. I guess technically, I didn't pass my OCLT, so maybe I'm not quite complete anyway.

The pool reel and my yard size doesn't really allow for hosing the bottom of the cover off, so I put it back in the pool last night to be SLAM'd along with the pool for the night.

Question:
(1) should I continue at SLAM levels another day or two to make sure the cover algae is gone? No CC this morning.
(2) any other recs?
(3) when the SLAM is 100% complete, do I have to clean my cartridge filters or not?

Thanks,
Ryan

Always. It's very easy to maintain SLAM at the end stage with little FC loss. It SUCKS to start a new SLAM from ending the last one to early.
(2) any other recs?
As you reel the cover up, use a sponge with bleach to get under the seam flaps. Mine were perpetually scuzzy no matter what I did. Rain / sprinkler water / morning dew would have them forever wet without being chlorinated.
(3) when the SLAM is 100% complete, do I have to clean my cartridge filters or not?
It will never hurt besides your time lost. Some don't want the hassle unless they find algae being continually reintroduced afterwards. The SLAM path to the greatest success is to leave no stone unturned. I'd rather be cleaning the filters on my terms and not kicking myself the next week for skipping it. :)
