Algae Eater Pro - Too good to be true?

I've been seeing ads on Facebook for the Algae Eater Pro. I'm a skeptic by nature and the claims it makes seem too good to be true. I'm curious to know if anyone knows how this is supposed to work and if anyone has tried it.

It looks like it has a replaceable copper anode that is powered by DC current from solar panels. So I'm guessing that it releases Cu²⁺ ions which are toxic to algae.

Copper ionizers are nothing new. They sell virtually identical things at Costco.

It's an overpriced and slow way to introduce copper to your pool. Also, copper isn't something you want in your pool, unless you enjoy green hair and staining. So these get the double seal of "TFP Not Recommended".
