Greetings! New to the forum due to the fact I am having a pool installed at this very moment. During my initial conversation with my pool installer, I asked about patio stones under the pool legs. He said he typically does not use them. He claimed depending on how the bottom of the leg “sits” on the paver there is potential the pool will settle and the edges of the paving stones can rub on the liner. Over time with the liner moving etc it could wear a hole in the liner. He has installed many many pools for a reputable local pool company over the years. I just feel a bit anxious doing this as every AGP directions show to use patio stones. He did say he may use them depending on my soil makeup (semi inground install). I am afraid he I just trying to get in and get out without having to level pavers. Any insight regarding this would be helpful. Thank you!

Not sure about the liner rubbing, I doubt that, but no pavers is a perfectly valid installation method. Pavers don't serve any structural purpose they're more just a tool for leveling. If the water line is level in the end then no pavers is as good or better than with pavers.

"I just feel a bit anxious doing this as every AGP directions show to use patio stones." There's your answer.

I read it as "I'm too lazy to put the pavers down and deal with them so this is good enough"

It's not good enough and I wouldn't accept a pool not installed as per the manufacturers instructions.
If he installs it correctly it's not going to settle and the pavers will be no where near the liner as they are behind the cove. There's also supposed to be a good 2-3 inches of sand below the liner.

Really appreciate the responses. CJ one of the other issues I have is he said he only uses about an 1 1/2" of sand on his installs, he said to order 5 yds of sand for a 24'. Instructions for pool recommends 3". I ordered the foam coves so no need for sand there. I'm at a loss here, I have a good friend he installed a pool the same way for and his pool doing just fine over a year later. He recommend this installer as did many on local facebook groups.

Not all manufacturers specify pavers in their manual, my Cornelius didn't. It's fine, if you've seen one of his pools and the walls are level, bottom is smooth, and liner is wrinkle free then he knows what he's doing.

After further reviewing my install instructions it does say pavers are recommended but not necessary. I spoke with him for awhile and I feel comfortable with his assessment of my soil as a base. I asked him how many pools he has installed...he said about 2000. I said ok its in your hands. He did say he will do whatever I ask. I said as long as you are coming back out to fix anything that needs fixing I'm good to go. We are in a smaller rural area and I know many people that know him and vice versa so there no chance he is going to slip away from me if you will ;)

If they're optional then they're optional.

I'd feel better about it in that case as well.
