After vacumeing,what order do i do things to prevent

I have a in ground pool 28'x13' with old maxflo hayward pump motor. I have this one basic question,after i complete my vacuming,i go to pump room,kill the power,then return to pool inlet,un hook my hose,and as soon as i do i see lots stuff like what i vacume up,coming back from the pump screen basket. IS there away to prevent this ? In what order should i do things to keep the junk in the pump basket,before i empty and clean it? Inquistive minds just want to know .

Keep the pump running, remove the hose, and then pull out the basket. You should have a secondary basket ready to swap out quickly. As you are pulling out the basket in the skimmer housing, the contents will stay in the basket.
