I have kept my numbers good and pool clean all summer and in two day, after a lot of rain, I’ve got light yellowish green looking stuff all over bottom part of wall and on floor. In places there’s streaks and they almost look orange. My numbers are off as of last night. I had tested just a few days before the rain. We had all night and all day of hard rain. I am posting my numbers. My questions are:
1. Could this be this bad just from not being able to vacuuming for 3 days?
2. Where do I start? What should I target first?
3. I’ve suspected for a while my new pump may not be as forceful as it should be, but they told me on here it probably would be fine. I’ve been looking for few months and things still aren’t easy to find. I have a Hayward in wall skimmer and change/clean out the basket everyday. Our sand pump always shows in the green, about 7, but we have backwashed three times this summer and each time the water wash very dirty, but pump gauge still showed green and the glass tube looked clean. I am just in a panic! I will leave this up for winter. I clean before I drain, then drain below hoses, get it to slam level, then use polyquat. I have winter cover I put on and plan to use jugs to hold down with. I just need to know what to do and how I can keep this clean until temps drop enough to close. I do plan on getting a new vacuum as mine quit. I have stablizer for CYA, Muratic acid for TA, now what else and in what order? I do follow the BBB method with my saltwater pool. Thanks in advance on what to do first....and then after.

CC of 4.5? That is really hard to have unless you have added non-chlorine shock or the pool is a swamp - which it clearly is not.

Check your testing.

yes. That is your best shot at having a clean pool next spring.

thanks so much for you rapid reply. Will start on slam.
Can you confirm, you have a CC of 3?

Ok, I have discovered the reason for the high cc numbers yesterday. I had purchased some new regents earlier and two of the older bottles still had some in them, so I used them. They weren't that old. So, after our conversation, I got my liquid chlorine and got ready for slam first thing this morning. So, I tested water before I started and thought after what you said, that I'd use new bottles. Guess what? They must have needed replaced because here are new numbers this morning :
FC 3
CC .5
TC 3.5
CH 325
TA 120
CYA 50
PH 7.8
I addded liquid chlorine and gave it a good brushing. Here are first test results :
PH 8.2+
FC 16
CC 1
TC 17
CH 300
TA 140
Added more chlorine and more good brushing and last test this evening was:
PH. 8.2+
FC. 23
CC. .5
TC. 23.5
CH. 500
TA. 150
CYA. 60
I did a backwas after this, and oh, my!!! I am realizing those other numbers don't matter right now. I will check numbers first thing in morning and another good brushing. Couple questions..1. How long do I keep this slam going? And 2. What number do I work on next?
BTW, I went out this morning to a light green pool. That just shows how quickly it happens. Cloudy tonight, I guess from all the brushing, but looking better! Yay! Thanks mknauss. Will post more tomorrow.
These pics didn’t turn out as green as it was this morning because of wind. But it shows a difference of where I had brushed.
