Aquacal pool Heater---- Trouble from day 1

My Aquacal pool heater is used about 12 weeks out of the year. It was purchased new in 2012. First year the compressor died. Second year worked sporadically. This year the temperature of the heated water is way cooler than it should be....... almost as cool as the unheated pool water. Out of warranty, $95 service visit charge in addition to a $95 per hour maintenance charge. On top of all of this my electric bill has doubled for the year.
This is my first pool heater.
Is there a better way?
