Zodiac MX8

We inherited this unit from a home bought in Solana Beach. The cleaner was not performing well in that small pool (9500 gallons inground plaster) so I swapped it out with the Navigator classic which loves that pool.

The MX8 needed a bit of tuneup so I replaced the gears, the treads and the two-prong snap collar. Everything was working fine in its new home, a 12,000 gallon plaster freeform in ground. Until about a month ago...

Now the little bugger wants to go to one spot and "make love" to the corner of the step. Every time I come and look he's over there doing nasty things to that corner. Now, you may say, he just needs some love and attention. Well, he's gotten it. I've pulled him apart numerous times to verify condition and operation and everything operated normally. But within a hour or so of pulling him back to the deep end, he's back on that corner like a crackhead to a glass pipe.

Any suggestions?
