The motor, after 13 years, decided to throw sparks and let the smoke out. Home warranty is replacing motor with 2 speed motor. What control is recommended to go from high speed to half speed?
Thanks ahead!

One point of clarification, a filter does not have a motor. The motor is on the pump ;)

You just need a simple toggle switch to manually change the speeds. A home 3-way light switch works well if you do not want it mounted directly on the motor. Or there are covers for the rear of the motor that have a toggle switch built in.

Solution - Home warranty guy got approval to replace motor on the pump for the filtration side. He installed a 2 speed USmotors 1hp 2EZ Speed motor. Kept the timer in the box intact. Motor comes with digital functions, not a manual switch. He programmed the times for the high speed and the low speed within the time I had set in the box. Will investigate over next day or so to see if I can finesse settings a little better. Total coost to upgrade from 13 year old single speed motor to 2 speed with digital controller - $75. Thought this might be a good deal.
