Is backwash line and p trap necessary?

PB said it is not necessary because we want a cartridge filter, plus the City we live in does not require it. When we asked "how do you drain the pool, if need be", his response was "draining the pool is the worst thing that you could do". We said "okay, but what if repairs to structure or replastering need to be done", his response was "we offer a lifetime structure warranty and we will pump the pool, repair anything and then replace the water...and the plaster company (Stonescapes won't need replastering for at least 25 years)".

Should we concede on this point? Do we even need this? It seems like it would be wise to have it connected to our sewer line JUST IN CASE...but PB seems to strongly be against it

No backwash needed for a cartridge filter.

But -- have the plumber install a Tee in the pump outlet and install a hose spigot. Then if you need to drain off excess water due to torrential rains, you just connect a garden hose and drag it off wherever to discharge it.
