Welcome to TFP.
We at TFP do not shock our pools. We follow the process called SLAM if our pools go cloudy or green.
Do you have a recommended test kit such as the TF100 or the K2006? If not it will be the best investment you ever made for your pool.
Please read the ABC's of pool water chemistry and Recommended levels in pool school.
As long as your pool is balanced you should not have to SLAM.

SWG are designed to help maintain your FC. You will likely still have to add bleach to get to the target level for your CYA.
