adding chlorine and circulating water

I have only been here a few days --- I am already getting that spacy, glazed over look. So much information -- and most of it is telling me that I have been doing it all wrong for 18 years ( I probably have been wrong). I am sure my questions have already been answered here, but ---. If I am going to use plain old liquid chlorine bleach, how do I apply it? Just dump it into the pool water ( maybe in front of the "in" jets)??? (I have been using a Haywood chlorinator with the 3" tabs). Also, in the SLAM instructions, it says run the pump 24/7. Is this through the filter? Or, is it just in "recirculate" position to stir up the chlorine? Wow! So many questions! More to come, I am sure.

We advise most chemical additions be poured slowly in front of a return jet so it mixes well.

Pour slowly, pencil thick over a return.

If you are SLAM'ing the pool, run filter 24/7 to catch the junk.

When I am starting up things in the spring, It seems the filter can clog up in an hour or so. Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong again?

If there is some algae growing in the pool then filters can clog up very fast.
