we have a 9 X 18 above ground pool that gets too hot on summer afternoons up to about 95 degrees. i tried the fountain last year and it didnt help enough.(But maybe i didnt have enough volume through it. our bottom line question is, knowing that running the pump over night will get it cool enough, if we were to shade the pool and keep the sun off during the morning and early afternoon, would it keep it from heating up as much? i assume the shade would need to be at least a couple feet above the top of the pool.

Shade always helps, combined with the fountain and running your pump at night.
