starting up an Intex sand filter

so this is my first time dealing with this since last year we use the pump that came with the pool and a cartridge filter. Is there any rules or instructions on when i first start the sand filter. Someone i know said something about putting it into filter mode for 30 seconds then switching to something. Cant seem to find anything on what to do

You need to backwash sand for 3 mins and then rinse for 1-2mins before putting it on Filter mode.

A normal back wash will be 1minute followed by rinse for 30 sec-1min

do i put any chemicals in the pool like bleach prior to doing the backwash?

Also, be sure to turn off the pump before turning the multi-port valve.

You can add bleach to bring FC up prior to back wash.
