Potential liner damage

I think that I know the answer to this but, I gotta ask: last year I found this site and used the bleach, borax and baking soda "thing" and we had the best and least expensive chemical year ever. This year we had to get a new solar cover and the "pool guy" asked about chemicals and I told him what we had done last year. He got a shocked look and told us that we were degrading our vinyl liner and the chlorine we were using was weaker and probably much older than the department store chlorine.
My question: will following the BBB method properly harm any parts of my 24 foot above ground pool?
Thanks. Great site!!
