Is my pool safe?

Are the pools safe to swim in? We have used bromine, but nothing has ever come up in the pool store test saying that our chlorinator was working. We are now using a floating chlorinator and have bromine tables in the skimmer basket since they are not as harmful to the system as chlorine is. We added bleach to supershock the pool last evening and it instantly turned green. How long does it take to go back to normal and is it safe for swimming?

You generally want to wait for added chemicals to disperse and circulate before using the pool. It should only take 10-30 minutes for chemicals to mix in a pool if there is decent circulation.
