Project pool... Step 2 - the filter

This is where I'm at ... Cleaned out pool, cleared skimmer line, pump is working, still can't get anything through the main drain, waiting for auto cover replacement to come in.

I'm thinking that I should 'Backwash' the filter to clean out the sand (the filter hasn't been used for years)

Any pointers? Since the pool is not full of water and the main drain doesn't seem to be working, I was planning on putting the hose directly in the skimmer and pump that through the filter on 'Backwash'. Will that push the water through the pump and then send it out the Waste pipe away from the pool?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would suggest: Deep Cleaning your Sand Filter

Could backwash before, but certainly should backwash after.
