Coping repair - quik-crete OK?

Can I just slap this piece back in place with some quik-crete and be done with it or am I asking for trouble?

You will need to chisel out any old mortar. In order to put a new mortar bed down to work properly the old needs to come out to make room. It has been a long time since I did any brick work but, I think Type S mortar will work in this situation. A good solid, Clean and dry surface on both parts is needed.

Thanks. Put it together last night. It seems like it will be fine. No more swimming hazard in the deep end.
