i have a grey sticky substance only in the bottom of my fiberglass pool. when i brush or vacuum the bottom of the pool and let the brush dry it hardens. i then try to flake it off then i clean brush or vacuum with mineral spirits to get it all off followed by soak and water. then ready to go again. i think its a reaction between DE and chlorine. any thoughts out there?

Welcome

That sounds more like flocculent or clarifier or phosfree that didn't get vacuumed up or filtered out properly.

Diatomaceous Earth is just petrified microorganisms - sort of porous rock dust. It shouldn't get sticky. And bleach breaks down into salt and water. Nothing there that should react with DE and require mineral spirits to dissolve.

How long have you owned the pool, and have you added anything besides chlorine and acid to your pool?
