I've been using a rock in my skimmer basket to hold it down while the pump is off but I've become sick of either having to fish the rock out before dumping or dumping the basket and then searching for the rock amongst the skimmed debris.
A short sealed piece of PVC stuffed with crushed rock solves my problem. I can now yank the basket and dump it without touching a thing.
