    Re: recomend chlorine

For shocking and killing algae you want to use an UNSTABILIZED chlorine. Your choices are sodium hypochlorite AKA liquid chlorine(same as laundry bleach), calcium hypochlorite (what is normally sold as 'shock'), or lithium hypochlorite. Most of us here in the forum use liquid chlorine or laundry bleach. Shocking with a STABILIZED chlorine is not a good idea (except perhaps when using granular trichlor to treat black algae--not the recommended first course of treatment but useful in certain rare situations). IMHO, dichlor should NEVER be used for shocking since it will lead to over stabilization very quickly and this will, in turn, contribute to MORE algae breakouts!

You might want to take some time to read the pool school section of the forum since the info you are looking for is in there!

I would recommend starting at the beginning and going through the whole pool school twice. Then you will have a better grasp of things and will probably have the answers you seek. if not then post a question!
