depth of sand under frame pool

we are going to be installing a 26 foot frame pool (intex/proseries type).
My husband insists that we are supposed to have 6-8 inches of sand under it!

I'm reading and everything I see says 2-3 inches.

the site was excavated for a 30' metal wall pool so there is a 32' diameter hole in the ground (heaven help me), but due to various reasons we ditched the metal wall idea and went with the frame type.

Please settle this question as I need to price and order sand soon!

You said you already excavated. I am assuming the excavation is leveled? If so then I would add sand to reach the top of the leveled part. Wet it down, confirm it is level. You won't want to bury a soft sided pool unless it is rated too.
