Why don't they make chlorine tabs with no CYA ?

There is DCDMH which is like bromine tabs except with chlorine only (bromine tabs are normally BCDMH with one bromine and one chlorine or sometimes DBDMH with two bromine). However, this is not generally available and it would build up DMH in the water. DMH may not behave quite like CYA but it will build up and at some point may affect disinfection/oxidation rates. We don't have info on the detailed equilibrium constants for it so don't know when it becomes a problem nor how much is needed to protect chlorine breakdown from sunlight or if it does that well. Too many unknowns to recommend it.
