Need help with Skimmer and vacuum

I am a new pool owner and when i try to vacuum using a hose and the skimmer, it seems i have trouble getting enough pressure. i was told i need to shut off the other skimmer to get more pressure to my skimmer i am using. How doi do that? Or do i just need to cover the other skimmer so more pressure builds?

18,000 gallon pool, two skimmers, I am using the skimmer closest to the pump.

Should i be using a satelite valve for my skimmers? probably a dumb question, but i don't know the answer.

You may have to close the other skimmer and even partially close the main drain (if you have one)to get sufficient suction to vacuum. Make sure you fill the hose completely with water before connecting it to the skimmer so the pump doesn't lose prime.

How do i close just one skimmer? I have a valve that will shut the skimmers off, but it does both at the same time.

If you don't have a plug for it handy, take the basket out and put a tennis ball over the line. Be sure you are vacuuming with your pump fully primed.
