Pump on or off when adding chemicals to water?

This is a straight up newbie question...

I read online (on several different websites) that the pump should be off when adding baking soda to raise TA. Guess I've been doing that wrong! I always turn my SWG off before adding anything, but I was surprised to read about the pump and baking soda. Is there a list of what needs to be added with the pump off and how long to leave it off? Conversely, what needs to be added with the pump on and how long to run after adding? Thanks!

You should always have your pump running when adding anything so it can get circulated properly.

You shoul run it for at least an hour before turning it off after adding.

That is what I thought as well, which is why I had left it on...especially since I don't add anything through the skimmer except CYA in a sock. I only questioned it because I had seen it in multiple places. Thanks!
