Jandy lite 2 problem

I wonder if anyone could solve my problem. I was running the heater for @2 hours when it started smoking. I opened up the front panel and the wire to the fusible link was burnt along with my control display. It was extremely hot inside the panel, you couldn't even touch the gas pipe it was so hot. I am in the process of replacing the control panel but want to prevent this from happening again. Any ideas of what could have happened???

Im not sure a clogged tube would generate all that heat before the heater finally quit (gas line got hot? Wow...). My guess would be maybe the down draft, rats nest, or a sooted exchanger. I think you had more heat rolling out than flame. That would explain the melting before the fuse shut the heater off.
