What size motor?

Ok, my 1.5hp motor on my Hayward Superpump died. After asking some questions on here I have determined a few things:

My old motor is a single speed 1.5hp with a SF of 1.3
I want a dual speed motor
I am having my electrical switched over to 230v so I can utilize a dual speed pump
I have about 80' of skimmer lines (2 skimmers)
I have about 50' of line to my drain
I have 4 returns
I have a Hayward S244T filter with 50 psi working pressure

The guy at Inyo pools says I need a 2 1/2 or 3 hp motor! The pool seemed to run okay with the 1.5 hp motor last year, although it was our first year in this home so we have nothing to compare to.

What size motor do I REALLY need for my set up?

Thanks for your help!

There is absolutely no reason to have a pump as big as they were suggesting.

I would just get a 2 speed motor with the same HP & SF (or product of the 2) and put it on your existing pump.

Nothing you wrote calls for high flow rates, so no reason to go bigger.

Good deal. You will need to add a manual switch. You can find some motor end caps that have a switch, or easy to use a household 3-way light switch between the timer and the motor.
