Hi. We just opened our 20000 gallon inground pool. Everything went fine until I turned on the pump. It appears that the titanium water coil in the Heat pump is cracked or has holes in it. I assume that some water got in it during the brutally cold northeast winter we had and did the damage. Has anyone else ever experienced this? I was very careful about blowing out the lines and disconnecting the input and discharge pipes per manufacturers instructions (for drainage). It looks to be about a $1000 part. I'm pretty handy but am not sure if this is a DIY project. The heat pump was put in new in 2008. There is no bypass for the heater so we are "dead in the water" until this gets fixed. While you don't have a bypass now, can you plumb one in easily? A repair like that could take a while and you really don't want to be dead in the water that long.
I agree, and this is one reason I wanted a bypass. If you can't get this fixed ASAP, I suggest the same as Tim.
