Questions and clarification installing Hayward through the wall skimmer

I ordered a Hayward through the wall skimmer as I cannot stand the over the wall Intex surface skimmer.
I understand how to cut the hole and everything. My confusion comes as to how to hook it up. Do I just hook it directly to my pump and just ignore the strainer outlet that is hooked to my pump now? Or do I have to figure out a way to T the stainer outlet to the skimmer and then to the pump? We hare not hard plumed. I know I will have to get a ball valve to block water from coming out strainer outlet if we eliminate its use. I have watched videos as well as read through threads on here.

I think either way is fine. If you tee then you don't have to worry quite as much about maintaining minimum water level to feed water in the skimmer.

There is topics for this listed under "useful links", I am sure you will find the info there. Tons of folks posted about installing a thru wall skimmer. You tube is your friend as well for that, just search for it.
