I just bought a Hayward SP0723 trimline 2-way ball valve. I've been wanting to install something in between the skimmer and pump to make it easier when I need to clean out the trap on my pump. I don't want to open the packaging until I'm positive it will work. Since the ball looks like it sort of freely floats around inside the valve and lines only when the union connector is attached, I'm wondering if these are directional in any way? One of the ports is labeled "Port No. 1" and the other (with the union) has no labeling. Unfortunately I've found no documentation online anywhere. Any insight you have is appreciated.
