Using home gas boiler to heat pool via heat exchange

Hi,

I am looking to add a heating system to my pool. At first thought there were two choices, mainly being gas boiler and a heat pump. However, a plumber told us we can heat the pool from the house gas boiler by using a heat exchanger.

Can anyone supply their experience with such a method or if not give some advice if you have looked into as well.

Thanks,

Your plumber forgot to tell you to bring your wallet.  A typical home heating boiler may be 50-70,000btu...a typical pool heater is anywhere from 125,000-400,000btu's. Home heaters simply don't have enough "oomph" and will drain your IRA and Investments trying to heat a pool!

You don't say where you live nor the size of your pool or your house but, generally speaking, you will not have nearly the capacity you need to heat a pool with a house heater.

Depends on the boiler capacity.

Some of the new "whole house" systems including heating and hot water are higher capacities such as 250K Btu.

It is cheaper than a new heater just for the pool, but it also adds wear and tear on the current boiler.
