Opened to a swamp. Been slamming. Passed OCLT, but pool is still green. I need to keep FC at shock level until pool is clear, correct? I'm using up so much bleach, it's crazy.
My SLAM isn't done, right?

If the pool is still cloudy, then you are not done. It did not turn into a swamp in a few days ...
Thanks! Just wanted to be sure. This is the first time we've opened it ourselves and I want to be sure I'm doing it right.
You are certainly doing it more safely than a pool company would by dropping in a nuke load of chlorine all at once.
It's ok, it just takes a while to kill off all the algae. No harm in checking. That's why we're here.
Thanks again! This site has helped us so much. Yes, the pool guy was just talking about adding 15-20 lbs of shock willy nilly. I kept thinking....how can you balance if you just guess? Of course he said he would need to come back and shock again. He seemed stunned when I told him I wanted no chemicals, just the physical act of opening the pool.
I'll bet he was surprised and that's really great to hear. What we teach is the opposite of what he does. You'll love your pool after this, and might even enjoy it more knowing what you are doing is making it so nice.
It's the craziest thing, I think the pool knew I was discouraged. It cleared up in color a noticeable amount today. My hubby even commented. We're in the right track!!
Keep it up! Your well on your way. I open and close with a company and I never have them add anything.
