Evaporation?

Just curious, how much evaporation should I experience on average? I have an approximately 18,000 gallon pool and I notice about an inch drop in water level per week when there is no rain. I don't have any leaks that I'm aware of. The plumbing is not leaking in any visible areas. Could this be evaporation, or should I be concerned about a leak?

That's consistent with what I observe with my pool, as long as it is warm and dry. If it's still cold outside, then I might get a bit suspicious.

Do you cover your pool ?
It also makes a difference if your in the city or out in the country. I have a pretty good wind being out in the open so 1" a week doesn't sound too bad. I keep mine covered.

Not unexpected. Depending on wind, water/outdoor temps it can vary, but an inch a week, pretty normal.

We have humid summers with hardly any evaporation. But in the spring and the fall when the humidity is low there can be a surprising amount of evaporation.

I've been losing a lot lately, too. Besides being warm, it's been breezy, and wind affects evaporation a lot more than temperature in my experience.

My PB installed an autofill on our pool. He said pools with autofills don't leak or evaporate. :mrgreen:

Your PB was right! Mine hasn't lost any water at all, and my PB also installed an autofill.
