We have an OLD pump. PAC-FAB, possibly original to the 1993 construction of the pool. 1.5 HP 230v refurbished motor that was put in 4 years ago shortly after we became first-time home and pool owners. Pipes measure 2.5" OD and the equipment sits on level with the pool about 12' from the skimmer. We have 3 returns. In the last few weeks the pump/motor has been making a ton of noise and we really just want a new one in there. Preferably inexpensive, but not bottom of the barrel either. We have a friend who has installed one before willing to help us (he's an electrician with the water company) but we are unsure of what to buy as a replacement. Don't think we need anything drastically different, it has done the job nicely running about 4 hours a day and sometimes not at all! A two speed might save us some energy during the winter months when the freeze control kicks in overnight (maybe 10-15 times a year).

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
