chlorine tablets

Someone told me that they make Chlorine tablets that do not add CYA to the water. Surely this is not possible?!?!

There are some that are cal-hypo (add CH to the water which you also do not want in TX). But, we do not recommend them and they require a special canister to put them in (like the chlorinators).

Stick with liquid chlorine or SWG.

They do, kind of, but they are not nearly as useful as one would wish. Cal hypo is available in tablet form, but they dissolve very quickly, rather than slowly like trichlor, and thus don't work as a slow uniform chlorine addition the way trichlor tablets do. They also contain calcium, which will eventually accumulate enough to be a problem.

Depending on where you are in Texas, Blizzle and Jason Lion have good advice. There are few areas of the state where we don't have hard water. Most locales are very plentiful in terms of water hardness.
