Replacing lights or bulbs?

We have 2 old color wheel lights in our pool that are currently not working, they are not leaking and we suspect the bulbs are out. We are considering replacing them with the new color led lights but we are apprehensive to spend any more money as we are already replacing our deck, pool surface, tile and adding rock veneer. A solution we considered would be to replace the bulbs with LED bulbs of the same type as long as they were a lower wattage than the bulbs we currently have in there. We figured they would last much longer, be cooler, and cost less to run. Is there any reason this wouldn't work?

It depends on how much water got in and how long it has been there. Water inside the fixture will ruin it eventually and force the replacement of the entire fixture.

If the fixture is in good enough shape, remember to replace the seal along with the bulb and your plan should work out just fine.
