I have a new seal to replace a fairly worn and abused seal. I began to remove the old seal, but stopped when it was apparent that it was bedded into some sort of glue or sealant. I would have thought that unnecessary and, instead, the mating surfaces of the seal and the lid should be treated with silicone grease.
