hayward sand filter pipe leak

so i've installed a hayward sand filter with unions, but i have leaks. Please look at the photo below. In the photo, there is a plastic part that you screw in, am i supposed to glue the plastic part in or is tightening it by hand enough?

Teflon tape and silicone will do the trick do not glue

Teflon the threads on the union, 5 complete turns, then make sure the union has an o ring on it. Its the o ring that seals, hand tighten, then 1 1/4 turns more with a wrench.

Generally, that will probably be too tight. 3 wraps is usually adequate and more importantly, I would NEVER tighten a threaded joint much past about 1/2 turn more than hand tight. 1 and 1/4 complete revolutions should not be necessary,,,,,try the 1/2 turn before you go further.

the threaded joint that i'm trying to tighten into each of the 3 outlets in the multiport valve, the threaded joint has its own o ring on each of the three threaded joints?

I've put an o ring (was supplied in pack) on each of the threaded joints, the oring sits on the side of the thread that's not visible once 'screwed in.'
