Pipe to install cover help?

I need to put my cover on and found the homeowners did not leave a pipe to stretch the springs. Looking at local pool supply stores none of them carry one. Are they a standard size? Anyone know what size pipe I need to buy, I can stop at lowes on the way home? Thanks!

You will want a 1/2" pipe that is solid enough to withstand bending. This pipe then needs to be cut at the bottom so you can twist the pipe free when the spring is in place. This cut also helps big time for removal in spring time.
