Have a question or two!How long do filter cartridges last? And how do you tell if you need to replace it? I have Pentair Clean and Clear Plus 420 filter. Thanks

Mine have lasted over 9 years so far. Inspection is the best way to determine if you need new cartridges. The end caps can develop splits/chips and allow dirt to bypass the filter. Also any tears in the filter requires new filters. A symptom of this is when dirt starts to collect underneath a return.
Another problem can be calcification or permanent blockage where a good cleaning, soaking and even an acid bath will not allow the filter pressure to drop back to normal clean pressure. This basically means that you cannot successfully clean the filter but make sure you try an acid bath after the detergent bath just to make sure.
