Hello,
I am new here and am considering letting the pool service go. I am intimidated by the chemicals and keeping the pool in good condition but I do not think they do much that I cannot learn

If your not in dire straights with a problem, may I suggest Pool School for some light reading.
And if you do decide to care for it your self may I also suggest the TF-100 test kit offered here on the site. The instructions mounted to the inside cover of the kit are very easy to understand and EASY to use. I enjoy using the kit and it has taught me a great deal about pool chemistry.

yep, you can definitely do it...nice-looking pool. Any problem that I've come upon in my few short months on this forum has been given a solution by the brainies on this forum.

Ditto on the TF-100 kit, with that, and TFP.com, you can handle your pool yourself and save awhole lot of moulah.....
