Pool closing this weekend!

I think I have all my ducks in a row for closing the pool this weekend: I've gotten the covers in, pillow, polyquat, etc. I've looked over the article on winterizing the AGP, and it mentions securing a plastic bag over the sand filter. 2 questions:

1. Is this what most of you folks do?

2. Do you leave out the drain plug?

3. Do insects get in the filter sand?

Okay, I lied, that was 3 questions... sorry...

Fill pool to top of skimmers (mines buried, no draining), bring to shock level, put in Aquador plugs and return plugs, drain hard lines, blow out as much water as possible with air compressor, drain sand filter and pump. Put 6 way valve on winterize, Cover with winter cover.

That's my plan.
