Backwashing Sand Filter - How Often is Normal?

Curious how often fellow sand filter owners find themselves backwashing. I ask because this summer I've found myself backwashing mine once every 2 months. We've had a pretty active monsoon season, and my golden retriever won't stay out of the pool, but otherwise nothing out of the ordinary this year. What is typical for this type of filter?

Note that before summer arrived I completed a full sand refresh of my filter.

I only backwash sand filters when an increase of 7 PSI is seen or you are noticing a drop in your return flow. All the stuff that gets past the skimmer basket and pump basket is merely extra filer aid.

You should backwash your filter when you see a pressure rise of 25% above your clean pressure. Once every two months seems reasonable.
