Drain to Waste question

hello,
When you drain your pool (to waste) is it ok to drain water out to levels below your skimmers? Im assuming the pump obviously needs to be on to do this. Do I need to turn my heater and SWG off while do so? We've never done this before. Basically just wondering the process/protocol in general. Our pool has too much salt in it, so we need to drain some out and replace it. We have an inground pool approx 37000 gals with a SWG.

If you can isolate the suction to only the floor drain, then you should be able to drain below the skimmer using the pool pump.
There is no point in heating or chlorinating the water that you are just dumping to waste ;)

+1 on comment above, turn them off.

In the event you cannot isolate your skimmer by plugging it or turning it off with a valve, you can route the skimmer through a vacuum hose and head so it is pulling from the bottom of the pool.
