Intex pool pump and vaccum advice

We setup our Intex ultra frame pool 18'x9' on July 4th and the pump has already went out. I called Intex and they are sending me a replacement pump tomorrow. How do you hook up the vacuum head to a intex pump. I'm a pool newbie and need advice on a good pool vacuum to purchase. I'm currently using the skimmer to clean the pool

This is what I got. It was too much trouble using the one that connects to the filter. Plus if the pool was really dirty all I ended up doing was making more work by then having to clean the filter. I love it so much.
